Leroy and Findlay, two of my co-workers, decided that it was high time I got away from eating Chicken and Chips takeaway for lunch and had some real African food. Today they took Elsie and me to this random little restaurant on the outskirts of the city for meat and banana soup. Yes, meat and banana soup. Not two things that you would normally put together, but are actually quite complimentary. I was reminded of the banana burgers in South Africa. Picture this: An open air restaurant with loads of flies, plastic lawn chairs and low wooden tables, a chipped enamel bowl of broth, a hunk of boiled goat ... and a cooked banana. In Africa style, it is all eaten with your hands (except for the broth of course – you get a spoon)
According to Leroy, meat and banana soup is the perfect hangover breakfast.
